Luxury Bag Consignment Tips: How to Consign Luxury Bags in Singapore

Selling a pre-owned luxury handbag is easier when the process is clear from the start. This guide explains how consignment works in Singapore, what information to prepare, and which questions to ask before handing over your bag.

What luxury bag consignment means

With consignment, a boutique lists and markets your bag on your behalf. You remain the owner until it is sold, subject to the written consignment agreement. After a sale is completed, the boutique pays you the agreed proceeds after deducting the stated consignment fee.

A clear agreement should explain the asking price, fees, payment timeline, consignment period, price-change policy, insurance or liability terms, and what happens if the bag does not sell.

How the consignment process works

1. Start with an initial assessment

Send clear photographs by WhatsApp or bring the bag to the boutique. Useful images include the front, back, base, corners, interior, hardware, brand markings and any visible wear. Original receipts, dust bags, boxes and other accessories may also help with assessment, but their absence does not by itself determine authenticity.

An estimate based on photographs is preliminary. Final acceptance and pricing normally require an in-person inspection.

2. Authentication and condition review

The bag is examined for brand-specific details, condition, repairs and alterations. Entrupy verification is available for eligible products and brands. No single photo, serial number or hardware detail should be treated as proof on its own.

Condition descriptions should clearly record scratches, stains, odour, shape loss, colour transfer, replaced parts, repainting or other restoration when present.

3. Agree on price and terms

Pricing depends on the brand, model, size, colour, age, condition, completeness and current buyer demand. Ask how the price was determined and whether it can be changed during the consignment period.

No responsible consignor should promise a fixed selling time or guaranteed return. Some bags sell quickly, while others may take longer to find the right buyer.

4. Listing and buyer enquiries

Once accepted, the bag may be photographed and presented online, on social media or in the boutique. Accurate photographs and condition notes help buyers make informed decisions and reduce misunderstandings.

5. Sale and payment

Before signing, confirm when payment is released, which fees are deducted and how you will be notified after a sale. Keep a copy of the agreement and any handover receipt.

How to prepare your bag

Avoid aggressive cleaning, polishing or do-it-yourself repairs. These can change the finish or make condition assessment harder. If you are unsure, ask the boutique before cleaning the bag.

Gather any available accessories and documents, including the dust bag, box, receipt, care booklet, strap, lock, keys or authenticity-related materials. Disclose known repairs, replaced parts and restoration. Clear disclosure protects both seller and buyer.

Questions to ask a consignment boutique

Before consigning, ask:

• What is the consignment fee?

• How long is the consignment period?

• Who decides the asking price?

• Can the price be reduced without approval?

• How and when will payment be made?

• What happens if the item does not sell?

• How is the bag stored and handled?

• Which authentication method applies to this item?

These questions make it easier to compare services on more than price alone.

Should you consign, sell directly or keep the bag?

Consignment can suit owners who want boutique presentation and access to an established audience. A direct sale may be faster but can involve more negotiation and buyer screening. Keeping the bag may be the right choice if the expected price does not meet your needs.

The best option depends on your priorities, the bag’s condition and current demand. Resale prices can change, and past prices do not guarantee future value.
